Kids Jiu Jitsu in Santa Clarita

As a parent, you’re probably interested in signing up your kids for martial arts classes. The benefits are incredible; your kids will get to build their social skills and develop valuable self-defense skills.

The problem is, there are too many options to pick from: karate, taekwondo, and more. Knowing which route to take can be challenging.

To that end, we present one fantastic option for you: jiu-jitsu classes. To help you gain a better understanding of what these classes are, we’ve put together this post.

Below, we’ll go over everything you need to know about kids jiu-jitsu.

What Is Jiu-Jitsu?

Before getting into kid’s jiu-jitsu classes, we first need to get familiar with the art itself.

Jiu-jitsu, which translates to ‘gentle arts,’ is a family of combat sports that originated in Japan. Unlike other arts, jiu-jitsu focuses on technique and teaches practitioners how to use leverages and balance to overcome opponents.

It’s not uncommon for a relatively small but well-trained jiu-jitsu practitioner to seamlessly overcome a much larger opponent through skill and strategy.

Jiu-jitsu also sets itself apart from other arts because it is much safer, and trainees have to use their creativity to defeat opponents rather than rely on sheer size and strength.

What Are Our Kids’ Jiu-Jitsu Classes?

It’s imperative to know how to move your body well if you ever hope to master jiu-jitsu. Because of that, our kids’ jiu-jitsu classes emphasize bodyweight movement exercises. This includes front and back shoulder rolls, mastering handstands, and learning how to do cartwheels.

We also emphasize the mastering of basics in the sport, including how to escape from underneath an opponent. We also teach our students how to disarm opponents by applying and escaping chokes. We also go over the basics of how to escape when another person grabs your wrists.

To make things fun and engaging, we play different games that stimulate self-defense movements. We give kids the opportunity to learn self-defense from a professional MMA fighter with more pro fights than any Santa Clarita instructor.

The primary goal of our kids’ jiu-jitsu classes is to teach our students self-defense.

Two Common Questions And Concerns

If you’re still on the fence, allow us to address two of the most common concerns regarding these classes:

Does this type of training encourage aggression?

Our kids’ jiu-jitsu classes provide an outlet for children and allow them to channel their energy into something productive. What’s more, our programs develop valuable characteristics such as self-control, discipline, and respect for other people.

We don’t only help children improve their self-defense skills. Through the fun and relaxed environment we create, children develop their physical characteristics and learn valuable life skills.

Are jiu-jitsu classes suitable for less athletic children?

Absolutely. Unlike contact sports where kids move forward as a unit and less athletic kids fall behind, martial arts allow each child to progress at their own pace.

Some kids are more athletically-gifted and progress quicker. Others are less so and move at their own pace. In both cases, we value and respect each of our students and encourage them to work and keep improving.
